This was a module in my final year, where we were asked to choose a script and then develop final costumes from this.

 

My chosen script followed Mabel and her father, Frank, as they try to deal with their grief following the sudden death/disappearance of her mother and younger brother. When the mermaid responsible, Cordelia, saves Mabel and then returns to explain herself, Mabel goes to kill her and realises she can't bring herself to do it. Cordelia begs for a few days on land to experience life as a human before she dies, and during this time they fall in love. Cordelia then returns to the sea to die, and in her place, Mabel's mother appears at their doorstep, in the same condition as she was when she 'died'.

I chose to set the script in Cornwall during the 1980s, so I used my research into this area to inform the chosen clothing designs for the humans and my colour choices for Cordelia
